Founded In 1987, Caracole Inc. Was The First Housing Agency In The Tri-State For People Living With Hiv/Aids. The First Housing Unit, Located In Clifton, Housed 4 Clients And Was Essentially A Safe Haven For Individuals With An Aids Diagnosis To Be Cared For Until They Passed Away. Since That Time, The Disease And The Diagnosis Have Changed Drastically. During The Mid-1990?S, The Availability Of New Medications Caused A Significant Change In How Patients Were Managed. Since 2000, Increasing Research And Medication Improvements Caused The Mortality Rate For Those Diagnosed Hiv+ To Decline. In Response To Those Factors, Caracole Now Provides Direct Care Services And Housing To People With Hiv/Aids And Their Families Along A Continuum Of Housing Which Includes Three Comprehensive Programs.
