Founded In 1886, University Settlement Is America's First Social Settlement. Located On New York's Lower East Side, The Settlement Has Consistently Been A Force Within The Community. Program Innovation And Experimentation, Advocacy For Individual And Community Needs, And Quality Services Have Characterized The Settlement's Mission For More Than A Century.University Settlement Assists Immigrants And Other Low-Income People With A Full Network Of Programs. These Include Adult Literacy Classes, Mental Health Counseling, Group And Family Day Care, Case Management For The Formerly Homeless, Recreational And Educational Activities For School Children, A Summer Day Camp, A Senior Center, An Arts Program, And A Credit Union. More Than 20,000 People Utilize These Programs Every Year. University Settlement Has Been Recognized Nationwide As A Model For The Delivery Of Comprehensive Social Services.
