The National Black Women's Health Project (Nbwhp), A Health Advocacy Organization, Was Established By Byllye Avery In 1981. Nbwhp Held Its First Conference On The Campus Of Atlanta's Historic Spelman College In 1983 Where Attendees Took Up The Rallying Cry Of Civil Rights Hero, Fannie Lou Hamer, Who Had Proclaimed At The Height Of The Movement That She Was "Sick And Tired Of Being Sick And Tired." That Sentiment Was The Theme Of The First Conference And Continues To Serve As The Clarion Call For The Nbwhp Membership Today. Nbwhp Opened Its First Office In Atlanta In 1984. However, In 1996, Nbwhp Moved Its Headquarters To Washington, Dc, Placing The Organization In The Center Of The Public Policy Arena. Nbwhp Is The Premier Organization On Black Women's Health Among Legislators, Health Professionals, Funders, The Media And Our Beloved Membership. Run By Black Women For Black Women, Nbwhp Is Committed To Improving The Health Status And Lives Of America's 17.8 Million Black Women. And, We Need Your Support To Continue This Most Important Work.
