About Pacific Asian Counseling Services
In 1979, Dr. Harry Kitano Of Ucla Was Commissioned To Conduct A Survey Of The Social Service Needs Of Asian Americans On The Westside Of Los Angeles. The Study Indicated That The Social And Mental Health Needs Of Asian Americans Were Largely Unmet Due To The Lack Of Geographically Accessible Culturally Relevant And Competent Services. To Address The Identified Need In This Community, Western Region Asian American Project (Wraap) Was Created In 1981. The Organization's Name Was Later Changed To Wrap (Western Region Asian Pacific) Agency. In 1997, Wrap Agency Divested From Assistance League Of Southern California To Become A 501(C)(3) Nonprofit Organization To More Effectively Respond To The Unmet Social Services And Mental Health Needs In The Api Community In Los Angeles County. For 1997-98, We Served Over 4,500 Clients, Who Were 58% Asian And Pacific Islander, 20% Latino/A, 15% African American, 5% Caucasian, And 2% Other. Wrap Officially Changed Its Name To Pacific Asian Counseling Services In January 2006 To Better Describe Our Agency.
